Take a deep breath in, and exhale.

SELF-CARE. It’s not so easy these days. We can get so busy, overwhelmed, overextended, stressed out – or worse, burned out. But most days there’s just not enough time or energy for self-care. There’s always something else to do.

But, here’s the thing. Self-care is often pushed aside right when we need it most. And, our professional effectiveness and success, as well as our personal capacities for happiness, is directly impacted by self-care. So why can it be so difficult to prioritize? Well, that’s a question with many layers. For right now, ease up on yourself, and take another breath.

I want you to know that:

– If you’re experiencing burnout, consistent stress, or compassion fatigue…
– If you have a tendency to overwork yourself, have difficulty saying no, or have difficulty setting boundaries…
– If self-care is difficult because it brings up feelings of guilt…
– If you want to be an effective helping professional without draining yourself…

– If you’re confused as to why you feel so exhausted at the end of the day even though you love your work…
– If you’re great at helping others but not so great at helping yourself…
– If you can’t seem to keep self-care consistent even though you know you need it…
– Or, if you’re running on empty and still trying to do more…

…you are not alone.
And, this program was designed for you.

Ami’s self-care program for helping professionals enlightened me to aspects about my own care and compassion that may have been standing in the way of expanding to possibilities in my career and practice.

Ami’s program imposes a discipline of introspection and self-acceptance, and provides valuable tools to understand and prevent burnout, and maintain one’s health and wellness to perform a long and satisfying career as a helping professional. It’s like diving into a deep and honest journey into yourself and coming out the other side feeling compassion for yourself and your personal growth.

I’m grateful to Ami for bringing so much to my attention in this very comprehensive journey into self-care.

Ami (pronounced Ah-me) is a passionate and peaceful self-care advocate. She provides self-care coaching and resources to professionals experiencing burnout, and Ami has spoken on self-care and professional burnout at international events and conferences.

As a helping professional herself, Ami has been a board certified music therapist since 2006, and currently runs a private practice in Southern California specializing in mental health and addictions treatment.

A Note from Ami

I was only two years into my career when I first experienced burnout. I was so confused as to why a job I loved was draining me so much, especially so early on in my career. So I left my job and started a private practice because I thought having more freedom would help me avoid burnout. But it just came back in a different way a few years later.

Then, in graduate school, I completed my thesis on burnout and self-care, and immersed myself in self-care and burnout education. I learned that I was not alone in my experiences with burnout and stress, and that there are realistic solutions to live a more balanced life. However, these solutions are not always obvious or easy to maintain.

Although we know we need to take care of ourselves, it’s easy not to. Self-care might seem like a basic life skill. However, it’s often something we need to re-learn as adults, and continually reshape as we move through life. I created this program to help you do this.

When it comes to self-care, there are a couple things I want to clarify:

First, is that self-care is more than just what you do in your free time. Self-care is more than going for a massage or treating yourself to things. Self-care includes your everyday behavior and mindset in regards to how you care for yourself. This involves respecting yourself, not being so hard on yourself, managing your time, allocating your energy, setting boundaries, and honoring your limits so that you can feel alive and present in your own life.

Second, is that I’m not against hard work. I believe in doing the best work you can and making impactful contributions through your work. Self-care doesn’t mean not working hard and working hard doesn’t mean you’re not caring for yourself. I believe that both self-care and hard work can coexist.

As your guide and mentor, here are 5 things I will do for you in this program:

  1. I’ll be the calm and encouraging voice that treats you with respect, grace, and patience – with the hope that you will learn to treat yourself this way too.

  2. Help you find a compassionate understanding and awareness of your patterns, behavior and mindset when it comes to burnout, stress, and self-care – and uncover what needs to change.

  3. Guide you through a comprehensive self-exploration process to define and implement healthier beliefs and habits to sustain your long-term self-care.

  4. Provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore and work through your challenges with self-care and celebrate your progress.

  5. Gently, kindly, and consistently push you to reach new experiences of fulfillment, vitality, and joy in life while teaching you practical stress management and burnout prevention tools for the everyday stressors and for life’s bigger challenges.

I created this program to make self-care a lifestyle, and not a struggle for you. My goal for you is that at the end of this program you are kinder to yourself with a greater capacity to truly enjoy your work and your life.

I couldn’t have been more pleased with having Ami as a mentor at this time in my life. I knew I could do the footwork of learning about self-care on my own, but if I really was going to make this stick and learn about my blind spots, I needed someone in my corner cheering me on. Ami has become a household name as I referenced her in my life changes. My boyfriend says, “everyone needs an Ami.” I couldn’t agree more.

I knew I was burnt out and depressed, but I had no idea all the stuff lurking under the surface that was affecting not only my work but also my personal life. I have found that when you finally feel “safe,” as I did with her, stuff surfaces naturally because you know you have the support to deal with it. I’ve learned to set healthy boundaries with myself, especially with morning and bedtime routines. I joked that I was 35 and needed someone to tell me how to go to bed properly, but we all have a child in us we neglect and it was helpful to learn how to speak kindly and care for myself in that motherly way.

I have found many answers to the broken places. I was surprised to see deep under the pain and exhaustion, was abiding hope. Ami helped me to see the strength and wisdom and power that are inside of me. It helped me to clear out the fog and see what was there. When I started this process I was incredibly weak. At its conclusion I realized I had been so strong all along. I learned to love myself, which was my biggest goal.

What if I have a lot going on in the next four months? Can I take longer than four months to complete the program?
Yes, you can take as long as you want and go at your own pace. The program content will be released over a period of four months but you may take this at your own pace. You’ll have lifetime access to the program once you enroll, so there’s no need to rush through it. Do what works for you.

How much time will this take?
For each module, there is an average of 75 minutes of recorded video lessons for you to watch. In addition, for each module you can also expect to spend an average of 75 minutes of independent study for the assignments, reflections, and meditations. This works out to about 2.5 hours per module. The suggested pace is to complete one module every 2 weeks, so at this pace it would be an investment of about 1.25 hours per week. However, you don’t have to go at this pace and can take longer if you need to.

What does it mean to have lifetime access to the program?
This means that as long as the program exists, you’ll have access to it. There are 3 main benefits to this:
1. You don’t have to worry about deadlines or falling behind and can take the program at your own pace.
2. You can re-take the program as many times as you want to and re-vist the program content at anytime.
3. You’ll have access to future versions of this program and updated content.

Can I get continuing education credits for completing this program?
This program is pre-approved for 31 CMTE credits by the Certification Board of Music Therapists. If you are a music therapist, click here for more information. This program is not pre-approved by any other professional boards. However, all participants may request a certificate of completion at the end of the program, which you may submit for credit on your own. Please check with your profession’s continuing education guidelines to see if this is possible for you.

What if I don’t like the program? Is it possible to get a refund?
A full refund will be given to any participant who purchased the program, completed the program and assignments, and was not satisfied with the experience. To request a refund, email your reason for refund and completed course materials to support@resilienceoverburnout.com. Requests must be sent within 120 days of purchase to qualify for a refund. Partial refunds or partial CMTE credit cannot be granted.

Where does this program take place?
The entire program is online and you can do this in the comfort of your own home or office. You will create a username and password to access the program anytime. The office hour calls are also virtual and you may call in from your computer or your phone.

How do the office hour calls work?
Office hour calls are scheduled once a month for 90-minutes. These are group coaching calls where you may call in from your computer (so we can all actually see each other) or call in from your phone. This is a safe space to ask questions, get support, review assignments, or work through current issues regarding self-care. These calls will be recorded in case you are not available during that specified time, and you can submit questions in advance to be answered on the call.

What kind of support will I get through the program?
You’ll get support in a few different ways – on the office hour calls, in the community forum, and in the comments within the program. You will be encouraged throughout the program to use these opportunities for support as practice in asking for what you need, and to gain insight by sharing your experience rather than remaining isolated.

Who is this program right for?
This program is designed for all helping professionals (anyone working in healthcare, mental health, education, service, wellness, etc.) and is especially helpful for you if you relate to any of the following:
You’re experiencing burnout or stress and want to make a positive change
You’re vulnerable to burnout because of a tendency to overwork, difficulty saying no, or difficulty setting boundaries
You want to be able to serve others without draining yourself
You’re having difficulty practicing self-care because of feelings of guilt
Mainting consistent self-care is a big challenge for you
You feel like you’re sacrificing their own life and health to help others
You’re confused about why you feel so drained at the end of the day even though you have a passion for your work
You’re way nicer to other people than you are to yourself

Who is this program NOT right for?
This program is not a good fit for anyone looking for a quick fix to burnout. This program will take you through a process to find the solutions that are right for you and involves deep self-reflection, which is a process that cannot be rushed.

I’m so busy. I want to do this, but I really don’t have the time. I’m also not very good at managing my time so I’m not sure if I’ll get through this program well.
It’s often when you don’t have the time for self-care that you need it most. Not having enough time is one of the biggest obstacles to self-care, so this program will address this, and cover time management techniques for self-care improvement.
